Chants win twice on final day at Wheeler Beach Bash
COLUMBIA, SC (CCU Athletics) - The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on the final day of the Wheeler Beach Bash, sweeping Chattanooga 5-0 and defeating College of Charleston 4-1.
Coastal Carolina improved to 4-4 overall on the season with the wins.
Match 1: Coastal Carolina 5, Chattanooga 0
In the Chants’ opening match, Madison Allred and Raychel Ehlers opened the scoring with a 21-11, 21-13 win on court four. Riley Melton and Elena Sanchez followed with a rally to win 16-21, 21-19, 15-9 at the No. 5 flight to put the Chanticleers one point away from victory.
Coastal’s No. 1 duo of Martine Kragholm and Sarah Riedell wrapped up the win with a 21-16, 21-14 victory. Ellie Hanford and Emma Kunaus outlasted the Seahawks on court four, 21-14, 27-25, and Julia Blazek and Emma Plutnicki put a bow on the sweep with a 21-18, 24-22 win at the No. 2 flight.
Match 2: Coastal Carolina 4, College of Charleston 1
Coastal jumped to an early 1-0 lead against the Cougars as Allred and Ehlers set the tone again with a 21-15, 21-14 victory at the No. 4 slot. Melton and Sanchez again overcame an early deficit on court five with an 18-21, 21-14, 15-11 win.
Hanford and Kunaus secured the match at the No. 3 flight, winning 21-14, 21-17. Kragholm and Riedell gave Coastal its fourth point with an 18-21, 21-15, 15-11 win on court one.
The Sandy Chants return to the court next weekend, Mar. 8-9, at the Tampa Invite.
