Myrtle Beach’s proposed 2024-2025 budget 8% less than last year, no tax increase
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - As city leaders continue to look over the numbers for the city’s budget that will take effect this summer, notable changes include a spending reduction and a tax freeze.
City Manager Fox Simons presented the suggested budget ahead of the annual budget retreat. The suggested budget is $330.2 million, an almost 8% decrease from the current budget.
The 2024-2025 plan includes $44.5 million for new capital projects, and of those projects $500,000 is allotted for a Vietnam War memorial at Warbird Park.
The budget also includes a 5% salary increase for current city staff.
In the proposed budget, taxes would not increase but some fees would. Those include solid waste, water, sewer, stormwater, and recreation fees.
The city council will continue to work on the budget over the next two months, and it will take effect on July 1.
