‘I’m going to try to live for you Britt’: A celebration of life honors Brittanee Drexel
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WMBF) - A celebration of life ceremony was held in the Grand Strand Friday for Brittanee Drexel.
The ceremony took place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Journey Church in Murrells Inlet to remember Drexel, whose confessed killer was sentenced to life in state prison Wednesday.
After 13 years, Brittanee Drexel’s family is finally at a point, as they say, of public closure.
Her family along with other friends and members of the community gathered to celebrate Drexel’s life cut short after Raymond Moody kidnapped, raped and murdered her in 2009.
Drexel’s mom, Dawn Pleckan, and her younger brother, Camdyn Drexel, said today was all about honoring Drexel’s life.
“I’m going to try to live for you Britt. Do the things that I can and I’ll just have you by my side and guarding me through the life choices I go through until I see you again,” said Camdyn.
Drexel’s mom said among all the years of suffering, she wants to help other families going through similar tragedies as they have.
She said her new foundation will provide resources for families dealing with a missing person case.
Pleckan said, “Because these families really need it. They don’t know the resources that are available for missing persons. So, you know, we want to be that organization that can help. After I’ve been through what I’ve been through for the past 13 years.”
Now, Drexel’s family said they will continue to live their lives for her and honor her life.
They said they appreciate all the work from law enforcement in helping to bring justice to Drexel’s case and bringing her back to them.
