MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Ahead of the First Alert Weather Day on Tuesday, Myrtle Beach staff are preparing to keep residents safe during the severe weather.

Crews could be seen Monday clearing off trash cans and recycle bins from the beach as they prepared to close them off ahead of the storm.

With WMBF’s First Alert Weather Forecast of high winds and heavy rains, crews from Myrtle Beach Emergency Management braced for any potential impacts.

“Waters are going to be pretty significant,” Myrtle Beach City Manager Travis Glatki said.. “I think they’re speaking about more than 8 foot of surf waves so we’re probably going to end up closing the beach tomorrow and we’ve already taken the trash cans and recycling bins from there. So, we’re going to make sure that our mass notification system is ready to alert people, it’s called MB alerts, it’s free for city of Myrtle Beach people to sign up for so we certainly encourage that.”

Glatki said there’s the possibility of some coastal flooding, which is part of the reason they’re clearing everything they can off the sand. He also said if you still have holiday decorations up, now’s the time to take them down as they could cause more damage due to high winds.

In addition to getting alerts from the city of Myrtle Beach, you can also download WMBF’s First Alert Weather App to stay in the know.
