MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - City cameras helped North Myrtle Beach police find a hit-and-run suspect in a matter of hours.

North Myrtle Beach police said they found 27-year-old Maria Vinanzaca in a ditch after she was hit by a car on Thursday night. They said the driver sped off, not knowing city cameras caught the entire wreck.

Officers said Vinanzaca, who is visiting North Myrtle Beach, was walking along 8th Avenue North around 7 p.m. Thursday when she said she suddenly felt something slam into her before tumbling into a ditch

“I only felt getting hit really hard on my back. I made myself into a little ball to try and fall and now hurt myself anymore. When I was rolling, I felt like I was on a roller coaster,” she explained.

North Myrtle Beach Police said they rarely ever make arrests within hours of hit-and-runs, but were glad they had eye witnesses and high technology on hand. They said it helped piece the crash together.

Officers said they also found the vehicle’s side view mirror on the scene.

Vinanzaca said she iss thankful for the police’s speedy work but didn’t plan her vacation to end up like this.

“It seems totally illogical that I came here to enjoy myself, and I ended up like this,” she said. “All because of an irresponsible person that’s behind a wheel, but isn’t cautious of everything you’re capable of behind a wheel. It’s not only about your life but also, everybody around you. That’s not okay.”

North Myrtle Beach Police said the suspect’s identity and official charges will be released in the following days.
