Man arrested at Florence Co. hotel after allegedly pulling a gun on clerk

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Deputies arrested a man in Florence County after he allegedly pulled a gun at a hotel clerk Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to the call at the Knights Inn on West Lucas Street where they said they found 42-year-old Gerald Powell Jr. disorderly and waving a gun at the hotel desk clerk. The sheriff’s office confirmed he was staying at the hotel at the time.
Powell refused to cooperate with deputies and a fight ensued. Sheriff TJ Joye confirmed no shots were fired and no one was injured.
Joye said during the peak of the call there were 8 to 9 sheriff’s office vehicles working at the scene.
Powell is charged with resisting arrest with violence, third-degree assault, and battery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and pointing and presenting a weapon.
