Suspect dies in crash after chase with Florence County deputies

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A chase involving authorities in part of the Pee Dee turned deadly Wednesday night.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Pamplico Highway for what was described as “erratic driving.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect drove away at a high rate of speed and eventually lost control after turning onto Freedom Boulevard. The car left the roadway near a bridge in the area.

Officails said there was no contact between the suspect’s vehicle and any other vehicle. Florence County Sheriff TJ Joye has also required the South Carolina Highway Patrol to investigate the incident.

The identity of the suspect was not immediately released.
