GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WMBF) - A group of volunteers met up Wednesday to help provide a new roof for a Grand Strand veteran.

SOS Roofing, GAF, Winyah Building Supply, Atlantic Roofing Supply and members of Georgetown VFW Post 6444 came together to help Quincy and Melinda Parson.

Quincy Parson served in the Army for 23 years starting in 1975.

The Parsons said they lived with a leaking roof for six years and tried to get help before, but nothing came together until Thursday. Before the new roof was installed, the couple said they had to use pots and pans to collect water that leaked through.

Melinda Parson said she’s glad she won’t have to do that anymore and is extremely grateful for the help.

“It’s wonderful. It’s a godsend,” said Melinda Parson. “I’ve been waiting for this for six years. Everybody came together and said what they were going to do and they did it. I appreciate every one of them.”
