FIRST ALERT: Scattered storms Thursday, Friday; beautiful weekend ahead
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - We keep the risk for scattered storms in the forecast on Thursday along with the heat and humidity. After one final round of storms Friday afternoon, the forecast looks lovely for the weekend.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK THURSDAY
We’re under a LEVEL 2 risk for severe storms today. Damaging winds and hail will be the primary threats in any strong storm that forms today.

It’s looking more likely that there will be multiple waves of storms throughout the day with the best chances far enough inland today. One initial round of storms in the morning should weaken as it moves toward the Grand Strand, keeping the Myrtle Beach Classic rather dry through the first half of the day.

We still can’t rule out an isolated shower or two throughout the middle of the morning and into the early afternoon.

The main line of storms will attempt to move into the area this afternoon. With temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and plenty of humidity, the fuel for storms will certainly be there. However, that initial round of storms plays a key role in the path of the the main line of activity. We could luck out and see the strongest storms pass just to our south. The best timing for storms today for the Grand Strand looks to be around the mid-afternoon and early evening.

If you’re headed out the Myrtle Beach Classic today, just make sure you pay attention to the weather indicators on the scoreboard and download our First Alert Weather App for live radar.
FRIDAY STORM CHANCE
Friday will still be humid, but slightly cooler as the front slowly moves through the Carolinas. Unfortunately that will set up another boundary for a few scattered showers and storms Friday afternoon.

Highs on Friday will climb into the low-mid 80s. Scattered showers and storms will develop, keeping a 40% chance of rain in the forecast. Thankfully, we’re not expecting any severe weather for Friday.
THIS WEEKEND
This weekend is going to be beautiful. We can’t emphasize that enough! The cold front will push offshore and the low humidity will work into the area. Skies will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the low-mid 70s on Saturday. We will climb into the mid-upper 70s on Sunday for both the Myrtle Beach Classic and for the Goodyear 400 in Darlington.
Any weekend plans around the area or with mom for Mother’s Day look to be fantastic.
