FIRST ALERT: Summer-like heat and humidity followed by severe storm risk
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Temperatures and humidity will climb higher through Thursday before severe storms become possible by late Thursday afternoon and evening.
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY
A summer-like weather pattern will deliver unseasonably warm and humid weather into the Carolinas through Thursday.
Wednesday will be mostly sunny and rain-free. Temperatures will climb well into the middle and upper 80s near the beaches and to 90 for the Pee Dee. Added humidity will make it feel a bit hotter.
Thursday will see similar temperatures and high humidity once again. The risk of strong to severe thunderstorms will increase late in the day.
THURSDAY SEVERE STORM THREAT
A LEVEL 2 severe storm risk remains in place for most of the Carolinas on Thursday.

A cold front will start to move into the region late in the day on Thursday. This front will run into the summer heat and humidity, and when combined with energy in the upper atmosphere, set the stage for several clusters of strong to severe storms late in the day.

Storms will likely start to develop east of the Appalachian Mountains by Thursday afternoon, advancing toward the Pee Dee and Grand Strand by the evening hours. The main threats with any strong or severe storms that form will be hail and damaging winds.
New data coming in through Wednesday will help to pin down the more exact timing and any potential tornado threat that may develop.
As the front slows down Thursday night and Friday, scattered showers and storms will remain possible, but no severe weather is expected on Friday.
MYRTLE BEACH CLASSIC
Myrtle Beach Classic week is finally here. As a reminder, everything you need to know about the classic can be found here.
Thursday’s storms will likely arrive late enough in the day to prevent any delays or issues. Lightning delays could develop on Friday depending on the strength and location of any pop up storms that manage to develop.
Lower humidity and a comfortable weekend arrives for the weekend rounds on Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of sunshine and lower humidity are in the forecast.
