FIRST ALERT: Summer-like warmth returns today, rain chances trending up for the weekend
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Brighter skies and much warmer temperatures return today with increasing rain chances arriving by the weekend.
TODAY
Sunny skies return Thursday as temperatures once again soar through the afternoon. Temperatures will reach the lower 80s along the Grand Strand, with highs near 90 for most of the Pee Dee.
FRIDAY
Warmth continues on Friday with temperatures once again near 80 at the beaches and into the upper 80s inland. Increasing moisture will lead to the chance of a few afternoon storms. Rain chances are only 30% on Friday meaning most areas will stay dry.
With some energy in the upper atmosphere, one or two of the storms could be strong with gusty winds and lightning, but no significant severe weather is expected.
THIS WEEKEND
A cold front begins to approach the region on Saturday. Temperatures will climb to near 80 at the beach and into the middle 80s inland. A few showers and storms will be possible in the afternoon especially near the beaches.
The cold front will move off shore Saturday night as much cooler air filters in.
Sunday will start off with mostly cloudy skies that turn overcast through the day. Rain chances will increase through the afternoon with a steady and potentially soaking rain arriving by the evening. High temperatures by Sunday will only reach the upper 60s to near 70 and will fall well into the lower 60s as the rain moves in later in the day.
The newest data suggests higher rain chances continuing into early Monday morning with rainfall totals potentially reaching up to an inch in some areas.
