FIRST ALERT: How to make a homemade eclipse viewer

The Great American Eclipse is just around the corner and if you are not in the path of totality you are going to need a viewer or glasses to see the eclipse.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The Great American Eclipse is just around the corner, but you’ll need some special equipment solar eclipse glasses or a viewer box to see it.

Since the path of totality is not in South Carolina we will only see 70% of the eclipse.

If you are not planning on traveling to the path of totality, however, you can easily make an eclipse viewer by just using things around the house.

First Alert Chief Meteorologist Jamie Arnold explains in the video above the step-by-step process of making a homemade viewer.

MAKING A HOMEMADE ECLIPSE VIEWER

STEP 1: Find a shoebox

STEP 2: Cut two small holes on the side of the box,

STEP 3: Add tape to a piece of aluminum foil and place it over one of the holes.

STEP 4: Then poke a small hole into the foil.

STEP 5: Add tape to a white piece of paper and attach it inside the back of the box.

STEP 6: Add the lid on top and you’ve made your own eclipse viewer.
