Dillon’s Josiah Thompson named S.C. Mr. Football finalist

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A football standout from the Pee Dee has been named a finalist for South Carolina’s Mr. Football award.

Dillon senior offensive lineman Josiah Thompson was announced as one of the finalists for the award, which is the top individual honor for high school football players in the state.

Thompson, who has verbally committed to South Carolina, is also a Shrine Bowl selection and has started for the Wildcats since his sophomore season. Playing mainly left tackle, Thompson has also helped anchor the team’s offensive line to two straight Lower State title game appearances and a region title this season.

The other finalists for the award are:

  • Zion Dobson, Hampton County
  • Avery McFadden, Hillcrest
  • Turbo Richard, Northwestern
  • Watson Young, Daniel

The winner will be announced during halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 9.
