Coastal Carolina students join the Chants for football practice
CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina students were invited onto the teal turf Friday afternoon to experience what it’s like to be a Chanticleer football player.
Coastal students joined the team to run drills and participate in different competitions like field goals and furthest throws.
This was the first time students got to see the 2024 roster in person which is full of new faces.
One of those new faces is Noah Kim, a QB transfer from Michigan State who started in five games for the Spartans.
One of the students at practice was Cody Tudor, a freshman who goes by ‘Coastal Carolina Banana Man’ because of the banana costume he wears to every game.
Tudor is usually in the stands playing with the band, but he said it was cool seeing the other side.
“It’s really exciting to get the opportunity to just let loose and just have fun and go have a good time even though I’m not good at football,” said Tudor. “I can go out and pretend that I am and just make myself a fun little non-highlight reel.”
While Tudor may not have been the best player on the field, he was excited to get a look at this year’s roster, especially after last season’s success.
“It’s something that I don’t know what to expect, but that’s the best part about it,” said Tudor “Being able to see the new team, the new quarterbacks, new everything. Just make a name for themselves rather than riding the coattails of the past. We don’t want to be the cowboys riding in the past, we want to be the Chants of today.”
The team kicks off the season on the road against Jacksonville State on Aug. 31.
