DETROIT (WMBF) - Another Pee Dee product is heading to the NFL and staying in the Carolinas.

Former South Carolina Gamecock wide receiver Xavier Legette was selected in the first round, 32nd overall by the Carolina Panthers during the NFL draft in Detroit. Carolina traded up a spot with the Buffalo Bills just before the end of the first round to pick Legette Thursday night.

Legette, a native of Mullins, had a breakout year in 2023 in his final season with the Gamecocks, totaling over 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns.

He was also a 2023 Senior Bowl selection and was a selection on several all-season teams. Legette was also a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is awarded to the nation’s most outstanding receiver.

Legette was a highly-touted recruit out of Mullins High School, where he played both football and basketball for the Auctioneers.
