WATCH: City of Columbia hosts national championship parade for USC women’s basketball team

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The University of South Carolina (USC) women’s basketball team was celebrated with a parade after winning the national championship.

The City of Columbia hosted the parade on Sunday, April 14 down Main Street leading up to the South Carolina State House.

Along with Coach Dawn Staley and the team, local elected officials, government and community members joined Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, City Council members, and university officials. USC women’s basketball alumnae, South Carolina band, cheerleaders and Cocky also were a part of the parade.

A pep rally on the State House steps followed. Fans heard from Rickenmann, USC’s Athletic Director Ray Tanner, Staley, and selected team members.
