MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - One committee has made it a goal to prioritize the beauty of the beach where we live.

The Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful Committee hosted a litter clean-up Monday morning at Hurl Rock Park on South Ocean Boulevard.

More than 25 volunteers came out to help clean-up the beaches and surrounding areas to keep trash from getting into the ocean. They were provided with trash bags, grabbers, gloves, and snacks.

Yaritiza Tinoco, a liaison for the Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful Committee, said the city of Myrtle Beach does a good job keeping our beaches clean, but she will never miss a chance to lend a hand, especially during cold months.

“It’s a beautiful park so just trying to help out, keep it beautiful, especially with the upcoming season so we want to try and just clean up as much as we possibly can, and just set a good example for everyone else,” Tinoco said.

Volunteers not only want to give back but keeping the beach clean is the perfect way to celebrate “Set a Good Example Day.”

Brooke Vu, a volunteer, said setting an example is something we could all do daily.

“I think the best way to set a good example is by doing this just all the time, not just when it’s up on a calendar but because you are walking to the grocery store or to the beach and you see something pick it up just because you want to,” Vu said.

“Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful” has a community clean-up or beautification project once or twice a month.

The next event is coming up at the end of March.
