Developers of Myrtle Beach surf park ask for 3rd extension in land purchase agreement
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – Developers of a surf park in Myrtle Beach are facing more delays.
During its Tuesday meeting, Myrtle Beach City Council approved a first reading to extend a land purchase agreement with the developers of the SurfWorks water park.
It’s the third time the developers have asked for an extension to purchase the 21 acres of land from the city of Myrtle Beach.

The buyers requested an extension of an additional 12 months to close on the property by April 30, 2025. The buyers also offered $100,000 non-refundable earnest money to the city which is due by Oct. 30, 2024.
Documents show that the buyers have faced delays in finalizing the final piece of capital because of rise in construction costs and interest rates.
But according to city documents, the buyers are still continuing with the design, engineering and permitting for the multi-million dollar surf park.
SurfWorks would be South Carolina’s first surf and adventure park. Along with the lagoon, there will be an on-site skate park and amphitheater.
The approval of the third extension is expected to face a final vote at the next Myrtle Beach City Council meeting.
