Newborn safely surrendered to Upstate hospital under Daniel’s Law
ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A newborn was surrendered to healthcare professionals at a hospital in Anderson.
According to the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS), the baby girl was born on May 3 at AnMed Hospital and turned over to medical staff that same day.
Officials said the baby has been medically evaluated, discharged and placed in a licensed foster home.
A permanency planning hearing is scheduled June 13 at 9:45 a.m. at the Anderson County Family Court located at 100 South Main Street.
State officials said this is the fourth baby surrendered under Daniel’s Law in South Carolina so far this year.
Under the law, instead of abandoning a baby up to 60 days old in dangerous circumstances, a person can surrender the unharmed newborn baby at a designated location.
