‘Please pray’: Agencies send condolences after 4 officers killed in N.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WMBF/WBTV) - Law enforcement agencies across the Carolinas are mourning the loss of four officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice on Monday.

Three of those officers were members of the U.S. Marshals task force, and the fourth was an officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, our sister station in Charlotte reports.

They were trying to sever a warrant in east Charlotte but were met with gunfire, leading to a shootout, according to officials.

When the dust settled, multiple agencies took to social media to share condolences.

“Please pray for ALL of those involved and affected by this tragedy,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said. “Our hearts are hurting for our neighbors.”

“This is such a tragedy and seems to be happening more and more often throughout America,” Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said. “Some of these guys actually assisted our county during one of the hurricanes that devastated our county. Please take time to remember everyone touched by this tragic incident.”

“The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office sends out prayers to the families and fellow officers of the four officers killed today [Monday] in Charlotte,” Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater said. “Please keep the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the U.S. Marshall’s Service in your prayers as they face this tremendous loss.”

“Prayers going out to the families, friends and co-workers of the three U.S. Marshals that paid the ultimate sacrifice today [Monday] in Charlotte,” the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Our prayers are with our brothers and sisters of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the United States Marshals Service during their time of loss,” the Latta Police Department said. “We ask God to provide peace and comfort to the families, both blood & blue, of the heroes lost yesterday [Monday]. To those of us still standing; the line must be held! It is written; Evil will not prosper.”

“The Florence County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to the United States Marshals Service and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for their tremendous loss suffered yesterday [Monday],” the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said. “Their bravery and sacrifice will not go unnoticed. We also pray for the family and colleagues of the fallen officers and will continue to pray for the officers that were injured as they recover.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in the tragic events in Charlotte, NC,” the Loris Police Department said. “Please continue to pray for the families, the injured Officers, the departments/agencies effected and the community.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in the devastating events in Charlotte, NC yesterday [Monday],” the Myrtle Beach Police Department said. “Officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department the US Marshal’s Service paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their community.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in the devastating events in Charlotte, NC yesterday [Monday],” the Conway Police Department said. “Officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department the US Marshal’s Service paid the ultimate sacrifice. We continue to pray for the families, those injured, both departments and the community.”

“On behalf of the City of Hartsville, Hartsville Police Department, and Hartsville Fire Department, our condolences go out to the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and the U.S. Marshal Service,” the City of Hartsville said. “Our support and prayers are with the families and colleagues of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty yesterday [Monday].”

The man the officers sought to arrest on Monday was shot dead at the scene. Two females were taken into custody.

Multiple other officers were also hurt during the shootout.
