Wanted Latta man leads deputies on chase with child in the car
DILLON COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Deputies have arrested a Latta man on outstanding warrants after a brief chase on Monday.
While on patrol, the Dillon County Violent Crime Task Force spotted a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice driving north on Highway 301 with a driver possibly matching the description of a suspect with outstanding warrants. When the detective turned on his blue lights after following the car onto E. Palmetto Street the driver refused to stop.
The pursuit led the suspect to a dead end before he jumped out of the car and ran into the woods with a small bag and a child in his arms. Deputies cut off the suspect at the other side of the woods and were able to take him into custody.
He is identified as 29-year-old Dominique Terrell Campbell. Deputies seized the bag Campbell was carrying and confirmed it contained illegal drugs.
Campbell is charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking fentanyl, possession with the intent to distribute, child endangerment, driving under suspension, failure to stop for a blue light, and unlawful turning. He is also wanted by ATF on separate charges.
Campbell is being held at the Dillon County Detention Center.
