PHOTOS: Northern Lights seen across Grand Strand
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF/WDBJ) – The Grand Strand had quite the light show on Friday night and it could happen again on Saturday night.
The Northern Lights could be seen all across the Grand Strand on Friday with pink and purple hues lighting up the night sky.

It was caused by a severe storm that triggered the colorful auroras.
The Space Weather Prediction Center says at least five coronal mass ejections have been directed toward Earth.
These explosions of plasma and magnetic fields from the sun’s corona create the storm.
The coronal mass ejections headed toward Earth and combined and slammed into the Earth’s atmosphere on Friday night.
Another solar storm is expected to barrel towards Earth on Saturday and it could give the Grand Strand a second night in a row of the colorful lights, but it’s not a guarantee.

There’s also no way to time out when will be the best time to look to the sky. But the best way to try and view is overnight and try to look up while in a dark location and facing north.
If you use the night mode on your camera that will help out with pictures!
