FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) - A school in the Pee Dee has received a top state honor.

Delmae Heights Elementary School was named one of Palmetto’s Finest Schools by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators on Tuesday.

In highlighting Delmae Heights, the SCASA noted that the school had “a strong focus on data-driven instruction” and “utilizes various assessments and interventions to meet the needs of all students, including those in special education and gifted programs.”

The group added that Delmae Heights was identified as an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement school three years ago due to underperforming subgroups. However, based on 2023 results, that improvement indicated it would no longer be classified as such and that it received an “excellent” school report card rating.

“The schools underwent an intensive application process requiring self-evaluation, peer review, and two on-site examinations,” the SCASA said of its process. “The application and visits verified evidence of exceptional student achievement, instructional programs, professional learning communities, and school culture.”

The other schools selected were North Pointe Elementary School in Anderson County, Meadow Glen Middle School in Lexington County and the Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence.
