Report: Impaired driver drove through stop sign, killing woman in N.C. crash

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A man is facing charges after an early Thursday morning crash in Robeson County.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol was called out just before 2 a.m. to Union Chapel Road at Evergreen Church Road near the Pembroke area for the crash.

A 2004 Chevrolet Silverado going east on Evergreen Church Road failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a 2020 Kia Rio going south on Union Chapel Road, according to a trooper’s report.

The driver of the Kia died on the scene and was identified as Cierra Rochelle Jacobs, 33 or 32 years old.

The driver of the Chevrolet, James Christian Cummings, 18 or 19 years old, was taken to the hospital but refused treatment there. Cummings was then taken into custody.

He is charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired and several other charges.

The highway patrol report stated that Cummings’ speed was a factor in the crash.

Cummings was booked in the Robeson County Detention Center.
