Motorcyclist killed after being thrown off bike in N.C. crash

A biker died after being thrown off his motorcycle in a Tuesday afternoon crash in Robeson County.

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A biker died after being thrown off his motorcycle in a Tuesday afternoon crash in Robeson County.

North Carolina Highway Patrol was called out just before 4:30 p.m. to Wire Grass Road at Atkinson Road.

A 2021 Kia Sorento going west on Atkinson Road failed to yield and hit a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle going north on Wire Grass Road, according to a trooper’s report.

After impact, the motorcycle crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the road and overturned, throwing off the biker, the report states.

The biker was identified as Shawn McNeil, 31 or 32 years old, of Lumberton. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The trooper said McNeil’s speed was a factor in the crash.

McNeil was wearing a helmet, the report said.
