Atlantic Beach votes unanimously to give Horry County control over future elections
ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Elections in Atlantic Beach will soon look different.
On Monday night, the town’s council voted unanimously to give up control of future elections, handing the responsibility to Horry County.

This comes after issues surrounding the town’s November election, which is still without certified results.
Recently, a meeting to certify the results between John David and Josephine Isom was postponed for a second time.
Both David and Isom refused to comment on the council’s decision.
During Monday’s meeting, town Manager Benjamin Quattlebaum announced his resignation after nine years.
“I will formally be resigning May 1. I’ve indicated in my letter of resignation that I’m willing to work with the Town as they hire and transition a new Town Manager,” said Quattlebaum.
Quattlebaum said he is resigning to focus on his consulting business.
Josephine Isom said he is trying to get him to stay on at least through the summer.
“The town has grown under his management and I’m still talking to him to stay until after our budget meeting,” said Isom.
As for the transfer of elections, Horry County Council will have to take up the ordinance for three votes during future meetings. If it passes, the county will officially take over the municipal elections.
In the meantime, the Atlantic Beach Election Commission will remain intact.
