WATCH: Donald Trump holds campaign rally in Conway

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Former President Donald Trump made a stop in the Myrtle Beach area on Saturday as part of his 2024 campaign.

Trump took the stage at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The former president confirmed that he spoke to thousands of people outside the arena before taking the stage. The HTC Center has a capacity of just over 3,000.

The former president also went after President Joe Biden, criticizing his border policy and calling him “incompetent.” He also attacked primary challenger Nikki Haley, particularly asking where her husband was.

“Where’s her husband? He’s away,” Trump said Saturday. “What happened to her husband? Where is he?”

“Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about,” Haley responded on X after Trump’s rally. “Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief.”

He also complimented Gov. Henry McMaster, who spoke earlier in the day along with Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and U.S. Rep. Russell Fry.

Saturday marked Trump’s first visit to the Grand Strand or Pee Dee since 2022, when he held a rally at the Florence Regional Airport. He’s also held rallies in Lumberton and Myrtle Beach during previous campaigns.

The rally comes two days before early voting in the South Carolina Republican Primary is set to begin. The final day to vote in the primary is Feb. 24.

It also took place days after the Supreme Court heard arguments over whether or not Trump should be removed from ballots following the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

WHAT ABOUT OTHER CANDIDATES?

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Trump’s final major opponent in the race for the Republican nomination, will also be campaigning in the state on Saturday. She’s scheduled to make stops in Newberry and Lexington throughout the day.

President Joe Biden won the South Carolina Democratic Primary last week, with the party’s next primary being held in Michigan on Tuesday.
