Trump, Haley look to gain voters ahead of S.C. Primary
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) -- The Republican Primary is heating up in South Carolina with both candidates campaigning in the Palmetto State this weekend.
Former President Donald Trump is set to rally voters Saturday in Conway at the HTC Center, just days ahead of South Carolina’s GOP Primary.
Polls show Trump holding a lead over former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who will be seeking to score a major win over right here in her home state.
“If you look back on previous contests, particularly previous Republican contests we’ve done pretty well picking the eventual party winners especially compared to Iowa,” said CCU political science professor Drew Kurlowski.
Haley made her stop at Coastal Carolina just two weeks ago and says she plans to fight to the very end.
Meanwhile, Trump has been battling his way through legal troubles on top of campaigning.
Trump has already won big in Iowa and New Hampshire and with South Carolina being a key state in the Presidential Primaries he’ll look to win again for a third straight victory gaining even more momentum moving forward.
“At this point, it seems like the most probable matchup will be a Biden-Trump rematch,” said Kurlowski.
Republican voters can start voting early on Monday, Feb.12.
The official GOP Primary is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24.
