Nikki Haley holds rally at Coastal Carolina University
CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Former South Carolina governor and Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley will be making a stop in Horry County this weekend.
Haley held an event at Coastal Carolina University inside the Williams Brice Building on Sunday.
She was introduced by Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune.
“I think she’s being very underrated,” Bethune told WMBF News before the rally. “And I don’t think that’s fair. I do think she’ll do great in South Carolina. She’s not a quitter. She says herself that she is scrappy. She’s a fighter. She’s going to bring it on.”
Haley began her remarks with a short moment of silence, citing the news that three U.S. service members were killed after a drone strike in Jordan. She then went after Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and talked about other economic and political issues while she was on stage for nearly an hour.
She was also interrupted by hecklers during her speech, including one man who got up in the front row and told her he didn’t want any new wars.
After a brief exchange with Haley, the man ripped up one of her campaign signs before being escorted out.
The hecklers didn’t stop Haley supporters like Mary Irwin from coming out to support their candidate.
“She believes in America,” said Irwin. “She wants what’s best for America. And yet she’s moderate enough to be best to play both sides of the aisle.”

The Republican primary in South Carolina will be held Feb. 24, with early voting starting Feb. 12.
